A Lowcountry Backyard: Ranks High on My List

I love being in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, and if you’ve ever had the pleasure you know why. It’s subtlety, laid-back atmosphere, beauty, and gracious character are both unique and welcoming, much like the feeling you get when walking into A Lowcountry Backyard, on Hilton Head Island.

We’ve visited A Lowcountry Backyard on several occasions, always for lunch, and have always left thoroughly impressed (and full). The atmosphere, service, and food is excellent. They have a casual courtyard for outdoor dining, a cozy interior, and their menu highlights down home favorites; rooted in southern tradition, but also features their very own homemade creations, like their Potato Chip Meatloaf, which consists of freshly ground pork and beef that’s topped with crushed crispy potato chips then skillet grilled and brushed with a tangy peach BBQ sauce.

Whether you’re in the mood for one of their comforting appetizers, freshly made salads, awesome sandwiches, lowcountry favorites, or 100% homemade desserts, you’ll find something you’ll love at A Lowcountry Backyard. Hands down one of the best lunches I’ve ever had while in Hilton Head – that’s a strong, but honest statement, I know.

Shrimp & GritsI highly recommend their pimento cheese with grilled flat bread for an appetizer, the potato chip meatloaf (enjoyed the baked 4 cheese mac ‘n cheese and seasonal fresh fruit as sides) or their unbelievable shrimp & grits as an entree and their (what I call) “close your eyes and you’ll think you’re back home” banana puddin’ for dessert. Stop in, give them a try, relax and enjoy!
